Thank You to Our Supportive Community!

December 8th, 2017 by YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka

YMCA supporters from across Simcoe County, Muskoka and Parry Sound came together to celebrate the YMCA and raise vital funds at the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka’s Spotlight Gala: Night at Camp, on November 17 at the Southshore Community Centre in Barrie. Through the generosity of the 140 guests in attendance, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka surpassed the fundraising goal for the evening to help support youth in our communities. The evening also highlighted the importance of how YMCA youth programs, like summer camp, play a strong role in building healthier communities.

With the help of our donors, supporters, staff and volunteers, here are some examples of how we’re making a positive impact in the communities we serve:

  • New Canadians learn to speak English and find a sense of belonging at our Immigrant Services Centre in Barrie.
  • This past summer, children and young adults spent time away from their families at camp, maybe for the first time, making lifelong memories and friendships, while building self-confidence and a sense of resiliency.
  • Parents drop their children off at a YMCA Child Care Centre, knowing their child is in safe hands and has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
  • Families receive financial assistance so that their kids could have the summer of their lives at a YMCA Day Camp!
  • Older adults decide to take a leap of faith in themselves, and learn to read through our Literacy Programs.
  • Families get a chance to sit down and eat dinner together every night for a full week during Family Camp at Geneva Park!
  • Individuals commit to making a change and creating healthy habits, thanks to the support of one of the expert personal trainers at the Y.
  • Seniors feel a sense of self-worth and renewed confidence from volunteering with the Y!
  • High school students will graduate because of credits earned through our partnership with local school boards!
  • Children attend swim lessons to overcome their fears and learn to swim at the local Y!
  • The Y connects individuals with meaningful employment through one of our Employment Programs!
  • Youth in conflict with the law are supported through our counselling services, helping them get on the right track!

We are overwhelmed with the generosity of our Board, our gala sponsors and everyone who attended the Spotlight Gala. On behalf of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka, I want to sincerely thank you for your continued support and send you best wishes for a safe holiday season and a happy and healthy New Year.
