Strength training is an essential component of a balanced fitness program and overall health. As our muscle mass naturally diminishes with age, so does our bone density. Strength training is a great way to slow down this natural process and therefore reduce the risk of injury.

As our muscle decreases, the percentage of fat in the body increases. Regular strength training can make a significant difference in preserving and enhancing your muscle mass while managing your weight. As you gain muscle, your body begins to burn calories more efficiently.

It’s important to remember that strength training comes in many forms, such as weight bearing exercises using free weights or machines, cable resistance exercises and body weight training.

Combining different training methods will optimize your results and help you reach your goals more efficiently. It’s also a great way to stay motivated and challenge yourself!

Beware of putting your exercise routine on hold for too long — training adaptations decline at about one third the rate at which they were gained. For example, a training effect after one month will be totally lost in approximately three months. Be sure to maintain a well-rounded exercise routine over the summer months and maximize your results!
