YMCA Outdoor Centre Programs

Geneva Park is open year-round. Camp Kitchekewana is available for bookings May, June, September, October.

Team Building Initiatives:
Includes various team challenges tailored to your group’s age, goals and objectives. These include both fixed and non-fixed initiative tasks.

Low Ropes Course:
Trust, communication and teamwork are the focus as groups work together to successfully complete each ropes course element.

Nature Hike:
Explore the flora and fauna of our forests, streams and trails with an experienced guide. Half or full day extended hikes are available at Camp Kitchikewana.

Animal Survival Game:
Participants learn about the food chain while taking on the role of herbivores, omnivores or carnivores to simulate an ecosystem.

Art in Nature:
Learn about the techniques of Canadian landscape painters then head out on an art walk where participants will practice sketching landscapes of their own.

Georgian Bay Islands National Parks Presentation:
Hear about Georgian Bay’s rich ecological area and historical past from the expert Parks Canada Staff. Participants will learn about the many species that inhabit the area and the aboriginal communities that once existed on the island.

Fire Building:
Practice different methods to build and ignite a campfire and cook a delicious snack.

Shelter Building:
Learn and practice building a shelter that can provide warmth and protection from the elements in a survival situation.

Discovery Orienteering:
The goal of discovery orienteering is to learn about map reading. This includes city maps, topographic maps, political maps, globes and other site specific maps. Students will learn how to orient themselves by navigating a site map and orienteering course.

Swimming:
Enjoy a refreshing swim in the lake that is lifeguarded by our NLS certified guards. Swimming is available during our spring and fall seasons only and is weather dependent.

Archery:
Learn about different types of bows and practice proper shooting technique as you aim for the bull’s-eye.

Canoeing & Kayaking:
Learn and practice basic paddling skills on the lake to maneuver a kayak or paddle a canoe tandem.

Tennis:
The group will be taught the fundamentals of tennis. This includes history, positioning, rules, parts of racquet, and different shots. Only available during the spring and fall seasons.

Traditional Sports:
Participate in a variety of sports including volleyball, soccer, basketball, badminton, and Ultimate Frisbee. Learn the fundamentals of each sport – the rules, positioning, skills, and techniques through practice and game play.

Biking:
Learn the fundamentals of safe biking, then take a trip around beautiful Beausoleil Island.

Campfire:
Spend a relaxing evening around a campfire with your group, roasting marshmallows, performing skits or singing songs.

Night Hike:
Test your senses, explore nocturnal life in the woods and enjoy a spectacular view of the night sky.

Team Challenges & Large Group Games:
Enjoy a fun, active evening as a group by taking part in indoor or outdoor team competitions or age appropriate games, such as the Egg Drop, Amazing Race, or Stones.

Carnival:
Our staff will host a carnival of fun and games! With 20 different activity options, we can customize the perfect evening for your group.

Drama Games/Talent Show:
Have a great time with skit-in-a-bag, human scavenger hunt, traditional talent show and many other fun and creative programs.

Snowshoeing:
Learn about snowshoes and practice using them to travel in snow during the winter as you explore one of our many trails, or step off the path and feel the great effects of snowshoes in deep snow!

Winter Outdoor Living Skills:
In the winter, our outdoor living skills programs, such as fire building and shelter building, take on a whole new focus in order to cope with the winter elements.

Ice Skating:
Participants will be required to bring their own skates for this activity, allowing those of all skill sets to learn, adapt and develop their skating skills. Please inquire on the day before arriving as rinks are very weather dependent!

Quinzhee or Snow Shelter Building:
Work as a group to build a snow shelter.

Cross-Country Skiing:
The group will learn the history, how to pick an appropriate size, movements and parts of the ski/boots. The group will take one of our many trails to develop basic movement skills.

Broomball:
Play outside in the winter! Broomball is a great winter sport that everyone can enjoy.

Depart from camp for a lunchtime cookout down the lake or spend an overnight trip exploring our island trails or nearby canoe routes. Includes instruction on tripping skills such as trip preparation, reading a map, outdoor cooking and more. 1-4 night routes available. Please contact us for more detailed information.
