Youth leaders at YMCA Fairthorne Manor Camp in the UK.

My experience in the YMCA International Leadership Program was amazing. The experience allowed me to try so many different things and learn a lot about myself. At Fairthorne Manor in the UK, we were able to work with kids in a variety of age groups and learn which type of age group was our personal favourite to work with.

While at Fairthorne, there were other global youth leaders from all over the world. It was really interesting to make friends with people my own age from places like Spain and Italy. I not only got to see the culture of England, but also many other countries. I don’t think I would have been able to have experienced this anywhere else.

There were a lot of different activities at the camp to try. They had low ropes, team challenges, rock climbing, a bouncy pillow, kayaking and more. One of my favorite activities to do was the stream exploration which involved walking through a freezing cold stream with a large group. I really liked doing a lot of these activities because they pushed my limit and help to further develop my communication and collaboration skills.

YMCA Youth Leaders participated in a 3-week camp in the UK to hone their leadership skills.

Overall, working at Fairthorne was a very rewarding and a unique experience for me. I would do this program again because of all the new things I learnt and got to experience. From day one I learnt about working hard and had a lot of fun doing it. I would recommend this program to anyone who is adventurous and likes working with kids.
