Can I use the YMCA logo?
Once we have received and accepted your Community Event Proposal we can provide you with our “Proud Supporter of the YMCA” logo for you to display at your event.

What support will the Y provide me for my event?
We would be happy to help you have a successful event! We can answer questions or provide guidance on event ideas that have worked in the past. We can guide how to overcome challenges that you may encounter while planning your event.

Some promotional assistance may be possible through existing YMCA social media channels although we cannot guarantee staff presence at your event, nor can we publicize your event through our web site.

The Y can help create a custom event donation page for you. This way your donors/participants can conveniently donate online, and they will automatically receive tax receipts for eligible donations. Of course they can also fill out the standard donation form (PDF) and put your name/the event name at the top.

Can I have access to YMCA’s donor list to solicit sponsorship or participation in my event?
The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka does not share its donor lists and protects the privacy of all our participants and members.

Who should cheques be made payable to?
All donation cheques should be made payable to “YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka”

Who is eligible for a charitable donation receipt?
YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka will issue a charitable donation receipt to individuals or businesses that make financial donations that fit the Canada Revenue Agency guidelines.

The Canada Revenue Agency only allows charitable donation receipts to be issued when the individual or business makes a donation without receiving benefit in return. Raffle ticket purchases, admission tickets, golf registrations, dinners and auction items are therefore not eligible for donation receipts.

Donations of $20 or more will be automatically receipted by the YMCA provided the donor’s name, address and donation amount are provided. If a company is donating money that has been collected from its employees, or if an event has gathered a number of donations and is submitting them to the Y, and there is a written declaration to prove this, the charity can issue receipts in each individual donor’s name.

Are event sponsors eligible for charitable donation receipts?
Sponsors are not eligible for charitable donation receipts because they are receiving advertising, marketing or promotional value in return. We will send a sponsorship acknowledgement letter that sponsors can use to claim their event sponsorship as a business expense.

I will have to incur expenses in organizing my fundraising event. Will the YMCA reimburse me?
All costs relating to your event are the responsibility of the organizer. Expenses (ie. Craft supplies for an event) must either be paid out of pocket by you or be deducted from the gross event proceeds before donating the net proceeds to the Y. Unfortunately we cannot lend out any funds to pay for expenses. For further information please see our Community Event Proposal and Terms and Conditions (LINK).

How do I submit the funds to the Y?
Once collected, please forward the funds to the Y within 30 days of your event. You may submit the funds by: Cheque – mail to YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka, 22 Grove St. W., Barrie, ON L4N 1M7. Please make the check payable to YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka Online – at www.ymcaofsimcoemuskoka.ca Phone – call us at 705-726-9622 x 444 Please do not mail cash through regular mail. If you received cash, please write a personal cheque for the amount, and mail that instead along with the donor name and address.

How will the information about my event be used by the Y?
From time to time, the Y may profile past third-party events for promotional purposes in our newsletter or on our website. It would be great if you could send us a couple photos and a brief summary of how the event went. If you prefer not to be profiled, please simply inform us.
