The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka can trace back its roots more than 100 years. Currently, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka serves over 60,000 people in Simcoe County and District of Muskoka and Parry Sound in Central Ontario.

With a staff complement in excess of 700 full and part-time people, combined with more than 3,000 volunteers and donors, and an operating budget of $24 million, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka serves over 19,000 annual members and participants through its seven centres in Barrie, Collingwood, Innisfil, Midland, Orillia, Parry Sound and Wasaga Beach.

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka has 56 licensed YMCA Child Care Centres providing services to greater than 3,000 families, making it the largest Child Care provider in the region. Over 45,000 day campers and 800 residence campers register in our summer programs. More than 15,000 people are served through leadership development, outdoor education and family programs at YMCA Geneva Park, and staff counsels over 20,000 people in several employment centres and programs across our region, including Huntsville and Parry Sound. Newcomers to our area receive guidance in settling into their new life in Canada, through our YMCA Newcomer Services program.

We are looking for a dynamic individual to provide Leadership in Fitness classes and Personal Training for our Gravenhurst YMCA. 

Reporting to the Supervisor, Adult Fitness, will be responsible for ensuring excellence in the delivery of health and exercise counseling services to group fitness participants and conditioning room users.

• Maintain accurate client records for retention tracking and target management purposes.
• Set Individual Conditioning targets with training staff in keeping with the annual plan and approved budget.
• Maintain high member retention by delivering quality individual fitness services.
• Recruit, train and schedule a team of instructors and volunteers.
• Communication with member’s on-floor and consistently update staff of schedules and programs.
• Provide strategic input as a member of the Centre Senior Leadership Team.
• Work with the General Manager to develop and manage an annual budget.
• Maintain, foster and create positive relationships for YMCA members through formal and informal initiatives.

• Degree or Diploma in Related Field Preferred
• Recognized Personal Training and Group Fitness Certifications
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Computer Literate/Systems Management
• Standard First Aid and CPR C Certification
• Current Criminal Reference Check

Relationship Building: Build and maintain relationships with members and participants through deliberate dialogue and interaction.

Presence: Be visible and approachable while on duty in program and service delivery. Maintain a strong presence and engage in on-floor health education, fitness leadership and individual coaching.

Communication: Communicate all deficiencies and problems to the Supervisor, Adult Fitness for coordinated resolution. Stay informed ensuring that all necessary changes, updates and general information is communicated effectively to members.

Planning and Organizing: Plan, organize and deliver adult fitness programs and services (group and individual). Maintain records as needed including program area maintenance items and daily checklists.

Instruction: Deliver service friendly, Adult Fitness programming. Monitor and maintain high quality instruction and customer service, adhering to YMCA SAM Standards and best practices.

Retention: Monitor and maintain a high level of ongoing member participation in the programs you are responsible for.

To be responsible for the safety and security of YMCA members and participants at all times:
• Complete incident report forms for emergency and first aid situations.
• To assist as the Duty Manager in the event of an emergency or building evacuation.

To provide excellence in member service, adhering to YMCA SAM Standards:
• Respond to members concerns in a helpful and positive manner.
• Support and work as part of a staff/volunteer team to ensure that all members’ YMCA experience is a positive one.
• Ensure the uninterrupted delivery of membership programs and services.

Clean Culture:
Actively work towards maintaining a neat, clean, safe and well organized area at all times.
