SITUATION:
The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka, now one of the 5 largest YMCA’s in Canada, can trace back its roots more than 100 years. Currently, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka serves over 60,000 people in Simcoe County and District of Muskoka and Parry Sound in Central Ontario.

Unique to Simcoe/Muskoka, is that it serves 25 communities within a county area. Each community is unique, has its own culture and has expectations that their uniqueness will be served. The vast geographical territory that this YMCA serves, creates a challenge for YMCA leaders to be constantly externally visible within the diverse communities it serves.

With a staff complement in excess of 700 full and part-time people, combined with more than 3,000 volunteers and donors, and an operating budget of $31 million, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka serves over 27,000 annual members and participants through its current seven centres in Barrie, Collingwood, Innisfil, Midland, Orillia, Parry Sound and Wasaga Beach, and in the fall 2011, Gravenhurst.

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka has 71 licensed YMCA Child Care Centres providing services to greater than 3,000 families, making it the largest Child Care provider in the region. Over 45,000 day campers and 800 residence campers register in our summer programs. More than 15,000 people are served through leadership development, outdoor education and family programs at YMCA Geneva Park, and staff counsels over 20,000 people in several employment centres and programs across our region, including Midland, Huntsville and Parry Sound. Newcomers to our area receive guidance in settling into their new life in Canada, through our YMCA Newcomer Services program.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct preliminary needs assessment to new clients and direct them to appropriate inside or outside services.
• Critique and format cover letters and resumes and make appropriate recommendations encouraging a professional outcome.
• Assist individuals with complex issues using an in depth, participant-centred approach.
• Conduct Intake interviews; to enter into a collaborative relationship with the client to assess employment needs and to develop a flexible, realistic RTWAP.
• Identify barriers to employment for consideration to suitable MTCU Programs and provide appropriate documentation to support them.
• Provide ongoing support to the client through the implementation and revision, of the plan.
• Be able to assess client’s commitment and dedication to desired program.
• Assist with the monitoring, follow up and support/guidance given to all clients throughout the pre employment cycle.
• Provide job development and employer supports for the ERC.
• Initiate coordinate and conduct marketing and outreach activities to community agencies, organizations and employers.
• Develop and maintain relationships with employers in a variety of industries to ensure successful job development for participants.
• Develop, create or locate job openings for participants based on individual skills and abilities.
• Develop and conduct job search related workshops.
• Maintain updated knowledge on Labour Market information.
• Maintain a tidy, safe, Resource Centre with up-to-date resources and adequate supplies.
• Maintain computers and troubleshoot basic issues.
• Multitask and adapt to evolving government directives.
• Observe changing needs within the existing services and look for creative new opportunities for expand them.
• Be able to work independently while maintaining team cohesion.
• Represent the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka as per standards outlined in the YMCA personnel policy.
• Complete, update and prioritize all required paperwork, case notes and documentation in a timely manner.
• Other duties as required and/or assigned by Team Leader.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Post Secondary Education in Social Services, Career Counselling, Education or other related field.
• 2 years experience coaching/developing people, either one on one and in large group setting.
• Superior facilitation skills with understanding of principles of learning for both youth and adults.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Demonstrated assertiveness in coordinating projects.
• Ability to problem solve, work independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge working with diverse groups and youth at risk.
• Proficient in Outlook, MS Word, Power Point, Access, and Excel.
• Strong communication skills both verbal and written, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
