The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka can trace back its roots more than 100 years. Currently, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka serves over 100,000 people in Simcoe County and District of Muskoka and Parry Sound in Central Ontario. 

With a staff complement in excess of 900 full and part-time people, combined with more than 3,000 volunteers and donors, and an operating budget of $32 million, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka serves over 29,000 annual members and participants through its eight centres in Barrie, Collingwood, Gravenhurst, Innisfil, Midland, Orillia, Parry Sound and Wasaga Beach. 

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka has 56 licensed YMCA Child Care Centres providing services to greater than 3,000 families, making it the largest Child Care provider in the region. Over 45,000 day campers and 800 residence campers register in our summer programs. More than 15,000 people are served through leadership development, outdoor education and family programs at YMCA Geneva Park, and staff counsels over 20,000 people in several employment centres and programs across our region, including Huntsville and Parry Sound. Newcomers to our area receive guidance in settling into their new life in Canada, through our YMCA Newcomer Services program.

We are looking for a seasoned YMCA individual to give leadership to the Health Fitness and Recreation Centre at our Barrie YMCA location. We are at a unique time in Barrie as we work to determine our strategy to renovate or build new in a strong, vibrant, growing community. Reporting to the VP of Health, Wellness and Community Recreation Programs, the General Manager will be responsible for successfully managing the ongoing daily operations of the Membership Centre by overseeing the sound management of membership service; centre budgets, program delivery, facility cleaning and maintenance, human resources, community relations and local philanthropy. In addition, the Barrie GM will work within the association department GM team to drive consistency and quality across all eight fitness locations. The ability to articulate and demonstrate the impact the YMCA has on our community is a key competency of the new GM.

• To monitor and manage Centre health by utilizing a variety of management tools such as budgets, member survey and Unison reports
• Develop and manage annual Centre budgets in conjunction with the Vice President
• Manage the fiscal health of the centre flagging significant variances in a timely manner and achieve the annual budget contribution as approved by the Board
• Ensure that the strategic goals of the Association are met
• Maintain a high level of service delivery by setting annual sales and retention targets, monitoring service and program quality according to YMCA Best Practices, SAM Standards and Adult Engagement Strategy
• Monitor and analyze and respond to membership trends and community needs strategically
• Recruit, train schedule and evaluate an exceptional Senior Staff Team by providing ongoing feedback and support to all Centre Staff
• Ensure that the facility is clean and well maintained as per YMCA and SAM standards
• Ensure that the Centre is in compliance with the guidelines and policies of all regulatory bodies
• Document a local Centre emergency action plan and ensure that all staff are trained and ready to respond
• Ensure a front line presence during the day, evening and weekend hours. Interact with members and participants on a regular basis to maintain accessibility and foster relationships
• Maintain an efficient flow of information both internally and externally
• To achieve annual giving objectives by working closely with the campaign chair and volunteers
• Work in conjunction with Association Philanthropy Staff in the execution of a Capital Campaign
• Maintain, foster and create positive community relationships in conjunction with the Vice President and CEO
