JOB TITLE: School Age Early Childhood Educator, Child Care
LOCATION: YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka – Collingwood, ON
PLACEMENT: September 2012, One Year Term

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka currently serves over 125,000 people in Simcoe and Muskoka Counties in Central Ontario.

With a staff complement of 900+ full and part-time staff, combined with over 1,000 volunteers and donors, and an operating budget of $33 million, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka serves over 30,000 annual members and participants through its eight membership centres in Barrie, Collingwood, Gravenhurst, Innisfil, Midland, Orillia, Parry Sound, and Wasaga Beach; 3,000 Child Care families across a number of communities; registers 4,000 day campers in addition to 800 residence campers at YMCA Camp Kitchikewana on Beausoleil Island; over 15,000 people through leadership development, outdoor education and family programs at YMCA Geneva Park; and counsels over 20,000 people in several employment centres, including Huntsville and Parry Sound.

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka has 72 licensed YMCA Child Care Centres providing services to greater than 3,000 families, making it the largest Child Care provider in the region. Over 45,000 day campers and 800 residence campers register in our summer programs. More than 15,000 people are served through leadership development, outdoor education and family programs at YMCA Geneva Park, and staff counsels over 20,000 people in several employment centres and programs across our region, including Huntsville and Parry Sound. Newcomers to our area receive guidance in settling into their new life in Canada, through our YMCA Newcomer Services program.

A highly motivated individual responsible for the planning and implementation of an age appropriate program designed to meet the developmental needs of the individual child within the school age program. The incumbent will ensure adherence to the YMCA Mission, Core Values, Vision as well as all legislative requirements set forth by the Ministry of Community, Family and Children’s Services, County of Simcoe, Public Health, and Fire Chief.

• Follows the supervision and guidance of the coordinator. Discusses policy or liability with direct coordinator as required
• Works to maintain active and effective communication and information networks within the centre, the staff team and with community agencies working with individual children and families
• Understands and complies with all legislation, guidelines and policies that pertain to:
o MEDU Day Nurseries Act Licensing o Department of Health and municipal bi-laws and regulations
o Ontario Legislation as applicable to the reporting of Abuse
o YMCA Standards, Guidelines and Policies
• Ensures program implementation is in alignment with the School Age Curriculum and Extended Day Partnership Agreement
• Provides consistent supervision throughout the program and sets up and cleans room to meet the needs of individual children, activities and programs
• Assists in maintaining children’s file information, ensuring file is up to date
• Complete program plans, reports, , daily logs, incident reports as required and follows up with coordinator and parents when appropriate

• ECE Diploma or equivalency from the College of ECEs
• Registered with the College of ECEs
• Up to date first aid and CPR training
• Clear Police Reference, including Vulnerable Sector Check
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
• Minimum of 2 years experience in the ECE Field
