ABOUT THE YMCA:
The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka currently serves over 125,000 people in Simcoe and Muskoka Counties in Central Ontario.

With a staff complement of 900+ full and part-time staff, combined with over 1,000 volunteers and donors, and an operating budget of $33 million, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka serves over 30,000 annual members and participants through its eight membership centres in Barrie, Collingwood, Gravenhurst, Innisfil, Midland, Orillia, Parry Sound, and Wasaga Beach; 3,000 Child Care families across a number of communities; registers 4,000 day campers in addition to 800 residence campers at YMCA Camp Kitchikewana on Beausoleil Island; over 15,000 people through leadership development, outdoor education and family programs at YMCA Geneva Park; and counsels over 20,000 people in several employment centres, including Huntsville and Parry Sound.

GENERAL FUNCTION:
The Supervisor Youth and Aquatics is responsible for successfully managing quality youth and aquatic programs and services in a safe, service oriented environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop high quality programs and services in accordance with YMCA standards and best practices, member needs and Association strategic directions.
• Monitor and maintain high member participation and retention through the delivery of exceptional programs and services.
• Using approved measurement tools, monitor all programs and services for quality, consistency, retention and overall effectiveness.
• Develop a departmental operating budget in cooperation with the General Manager.
• Monitor the fiscal health of the department flagging significant variances in a timely manner. Take appropriate action to rectify any significant variances.
• Achieve the annual budget contribution as approved by the Board.
• Follow all YMCA standards and best practices and regulations as defined by the Health Department, and other governing bodies.
• Ensure the safety and security of YMCA members and participants at all times through the supervision of qualified, well trained staff.
• Recruit, train, schedule and evaluate an exceptional team of staff and volunteers.
• Ensure that staff hold current qualifications as per Health Regulations and YMCA standards. Maintain current, copies of all qualifications on file both locally and at the Association Offices.
• Conduct monthly in-service training for aquatics staff concentrating on safety procedures, effective child and youth focused instruction techniques and exceptional YMCA service standards.
• Ensure a front line presence during day, evening and weekend hours as required by YMCA programs and services. Interact with members and participants on a regular basis in order to maintain accessibility and foster relationships.
• Maintain an efficient flow of information to ensure that staff, members and volunteers are well informed. Ensure that communication is clear, professional and effective.
• Function as an active contributing participant on the centre senior staff team.
• Maintain a high level of retention among qualified, high performing aquatics staff and volunteers through ongoing coaching, development and mentoring.
• Provide front line support to the other departments as required.

 

JOB KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS:
• Degree or Diploma
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent (Red Cross or Life Saving Society)
• Current NLS Certification
• Certified Pool Operators Certificate preferred
• Healthy Child Development Training
• SAM Training
• Duty Manager Training
• Emergency Training
• Minimum 2 Years Program Delivery Experience
• Current Standard First Aid & CPR C
• Clear Police Reference Check
