Leadership Facilitators and Operations Support Staff (2 positions available)

LOCATION: YMCA Geneva Park
DEPARTMENT: Primarily Camping and Outdoor Education Programs. Supports all departments as needed (housekeeping, food service, custodial, office and maintenance)
PLACEMENT: FT Hourly Term Contract, minimum 30 hours/week. September 2017 – June 2018

ABOUT THE YMCA OF SIMCOE/MUSKOKA:
The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka currently serves over 125,000 people in Simcoe County and the Districts of Muskoka and Parry Sound in Central Ontario. The YMCA is one of the largest charities within our service area, providing over $1.1 million annually of support and access to our programs and services.

With a staff complement of 1200+ full and part-time staff, combined with over 1,000 volunteers and donors, and an operating budget of $39 million, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka serves over 30,000 annual members and participants through its eight membership centres in Barrie, Collingwood, Gravenhurst, Innisfil, Midland, Orillia, Parry Sound, and Wasaga Beach; 3,000 Child Care families across a number of communities; registers 5,000 day campers in addition to 1500 overnight campers at YMCA Camp Kitchikewana on Beausoleil Island; over 15,000 people through leadership development, outdoor education and family programs at YMCA Geneva Park; and counsels over 20,000 people in several community development programs.

GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Manager of Camping and Outdoor Education Programs, Leadership Facilitators deliver dynamic outdoor and leadership programming to schools and corporate clients and assists in program planning and development. Under the direction of each departmental manager as an Operations Support Staff, assist in operational tasks in housekeeping, food service, custodial, office and maintenance. For this position, it is preferred that the employee lives onsite.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:
• Demonstrate strong support and commitment to the mission and core values of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and the YMCA in Canada.
• Demonstrate strong support and commitment to serving the membership, facility users and all program participants of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka.
• Program development and planning
• Delivery of programming including outdoor education for school groups and conference guests, teambuilding exercises, initiative games, low ropes, nature interpretation, outdoor recreation activities, sports and leadership development
• Working flexible hours (evenings, overnight and weekends)
• Site in charge duties: respond to emergencies and situations that may arise after hours
– Operations support staff duties may include:
– Food Service: bartending, banquet services
– Housekeeping: turning over rooms, off season deep cleaning
– Custodial: room and program set up, site cleaning, night custodial shifts
– Maintenance: grounds keeping, snow clearing, program set up, ice rink and ski trail maintenance
– Office: support the front office during busy registration periods

JOB KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS:
• Post-Secondary School Education in Recreation and Leisure, Education or related field is an asset 2
• 1 to 2 years’ experience in outdoor education or leadership development
• Experience delivering ABL (Adventure Based Learning), experiential activities and initiatives
• Knowledge of the outdoors, leadership theory and team building concepts
• Commitment to safety and risk management is essential
• Experience working with children is an asset
• Strong Customer Service skills are essential
• Experience in conflict resolution and capacity building are an asset
• Professional Outdoor Certificates highly desirable, i.e. Canoe Instructors, Low Ropes Instructor etc.
• NLS and PCOC are desirable
• Standard First Aid/CPR-C are required
• Clear Police Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening
• Mandated training (including AODA, Workplace Violence & Harassment, Health & Safety Awareness, Child Protection, etc.) is required before or shortly after commencement of work
• Ontario G driver’s license or equivalent
• An understanding of Ontario Camps Association and YMCA Overnight Camping Best Practices
