Looking for the Huronia Half Marathon? Move to Give with us on April 25, 2015!

Some know it as the Meatland Half Marathon, Run for the Chicken, or the Huronia Half Marathon.

This year it has undergone another name change — the Huronia Half Marathon is now known as Move to Give! No matter what the name, the event remains true to its founding roots.

The History Behind the Huronia Half Marathon

This event was started 32 years ago by the Noack family, founders of Meatland in Midland. Paul Noack was a runner and identified the need for a running event in the Midland community.

He wanted to organize something his staff could get involved with. Part of the charm and uniqueness of this event is that runners are ‘running for chicken,’ quite literally, as the top 3 finishers in the half marathon receive a box of frozen chicken breasts; a unique prize to say the least!

The chicken tradition continues to this day, along with Paul’s involvement with the event. Paul is still an active member of the planning committee and you can always count on seeing him on race day. The YMCA has been the recipient charity of choice since the race’s beginning . We feel very lucky to help keep a 32-year tradition alive.
