5 Reasons Why YOU should become a Lifeguard at the Y

Being a lifeguard at the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka

Whether you’ve been a lifeguard before or you’re considering giving it a try, being a lifeguard can be a rewarding and life-changing experience. Not only will you receive training, certification, and life-saving skills – you’ll be responsible for the lives of others. Now that’s a job worth investigating!

Here are five reasons why you should consider lifeguarding at the Y this summer:

You’re never bored!

Each day brings the potential for a new and rewarding experience. From preventing a near fatal fall to witnessing a child swim on their own for the first time – it’s one of the most uplifting experiences you will ever know in your lifetime!

Get to know your community

Lifeguarding provides you with one of the most unique opportunities to meet new people in your community that you would not normally interact with. It enables you to learn so much about yourself and others when you listen and talk to people all day. It’s a great way to meet your community!

You Can Make a Difference

Lifeguarding is one of the only professions you will ever have that gives you the opportunity to teach valuable lifesaving skills that will potentially mean the difference between life or death. Imagine teaching a 10-year-old CPR and then learning that what you taught actually saved a life! It’s a very rewarding feeling.

Help others stay active and healthy

We’ve all heard the health benefits of swimming. Knowing that your presence enables the members in your community to stay active and healthy is a great way to contribute your talents and passion to your community and give back.

Form Lifelong Friendships

The Y is made up of people of all ages and from every walk of life working side by side to strengthen communities. It’s a place where forming life-long friendships is part of the job description. The energy and positivity of the members and staff make working at the Y such a rewarding experience. It’s the perfect part-time job!

As the country’s leading nonprofit organization committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibilities, the YMCA offers more than just a job – it offers a career with a future and the chance to make a lasting difference in the community. Whether looking for full time, part time or split shifts, the YMCA provides the flexibility to ensure a positive work-life balance.
