Night Custodian

PLACEMENT: Full-time (2 Positions Available)

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka currently serves over 125,000 people in Simcoe County and the Districts of Muskoka and Parry Sound in Central Ontario. The YMCA is one of the largest charities within our service area, providing over $1.1 million annually of support and access to our programs and services.

With a staff complement of 1200+ full and part-time staff, combined with over 1,000 volunteers and donors, and an operating budget of $39 million, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka serves over 30,000 annual members and participants through its eight membership centres in Barrie, Collingwood, Gravenhurst, Innisfil, Midland, Orillia, Parry Sound, and Wasaga Beach; 3,000 Child Care families across a number of communities; registers 5,000 day campers in addition to 1500 overnight campers at YMCA Camp Kitchikewana on Beausoleil Island; over 15,000 people through leadership development, outdoor education and family programs at YMCA Geneva Park; and counsels over 20,000 people in several community development programs.

Will be responsible for meeting room set ups, respond to guest requests, guest room deficiencies, minor maintenance (clogged drains, plugged toilets, light bulb outages etc.). Responsible for the cleaning of all Conference, Public and Staff areas as per the cleaning program schedule. Responsible for making sure all of the areas are clean, tidy and ready for use the next day. Also to do spray buffing, waxing, stripping of floors and carpet cleaning. Security and fire checks are part of the nightly shift routine.

• Demonstrate strong support and commitment to the mission and core values of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and the YMCA in Canada.
• Demonstrate strong support and commitment to serving the membership, facility users and all program participants of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka.
• Picks up the pager and cell phone from the front office and ensures they are in good working order.
• Ensures Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn and is CSA approved (job specific) Employee supplies (green patch safety boots/green patch safety shoes & rubber & boots) Company Supplies (protective eyewear, ear plugs, ear muffs, fall arrest harnesses and breathing apparatus).
• Checks Custodial Night Log to see which meeting rooms are in use and if any special projects are requested. Will also check to see which accommodations are in use & which groups require assistance if evacuation is necessary. (E.g. Hearing impaired, physically challenged).
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds
• Ensures entrances & sidewalks are cleared of snow and ice during winter months as required
• Cleans all meeting rooms, public areas and staff areas as required, including dry mopping, wet mopping and vacuuming. Also cleaning and restocking of public and staff washrooms.
• Will be trained on installation and operation of audio visual equipment
• Look after guests requests and checks in late arrivals.
• Does security and fire checks in all main buildings taking note of any areas that will require extra clean up time.
• Tops up heating/cooling ballast in The Centennial Centre and ensures all doors are secured.
• Does various other facility checks during the night such as refrigeration temperature checks and water pressure checks.
• Checks exterior lights of buildings and parking area and ensures they are all in working order and reports outages to maintenance.
• Special cleaning projects and does the spray buffing and carpet cleaning as required.
• Follows emergency procedure protocol in the event of a power outage, fire, extreme weather, medical emergencies etc.
• Takes on responsibilities of manager on duty.
• Adherence to all provincial and federal legislation relevant to job description.
• Undertakes other reasonable tasks in support of YMCA Geneva Park, which the General Manager may assign from time to time.
