This position supports the Manager of Camping to maintain a safe and inclusive community at Camp in all seasons.  This position is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, evaluation, and management of initiatives and partnerships to enhance DEI within Camp Tapawingo programs and services.  This position is at the middle management level, and the incumbent contributes to the overall development and management of the Association.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates with the Director of Girls, Youth, & Family Programs and the Manager of Camping to develop short-term and long-term plans to meet the identified needs of the participants and the overall organizational objectives and departmental/program plans;
  • Assists with the hiring of all Sessional program workers and Part-time positions in consultation with the Director of Girls, Youth & Family Programs and Manager of Camping in accordance with the personnel policies of the Association;
  • Responsible for the development, evaluation and supervision of the leadership training and day camp programs;
  • Responsible for the development of camp newsletters and social media campaigns;
  • Responsible for shoulder season groups, including food service and their program needs, in collaboration with the Manager of Camping;
  • Ensures the coordination of operations through staff meetings, the sharing of program expertise, and outreach to other service organizations to develop partnerships;
  • Responsible for assisting with evaluating, identifying and measuring program outcomes;
  • Responsible for leading the Camp Advisory Council in collaboration with the Manager of Camping;
  • Conducts research and benchmarking analysis, including monitoring and reporting on DEI topics, to identify best practices and recommend strategies and actions that support engagement for diverse stakeholders;
  • Responsible for the safe operation of the Camp and its programs in the absence of the Manager of Camping.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • In-depth knowledge of an academic discipline normally acquired through an undergraduate degree in Child and Youth Work, Social Work, or Physical Education or Recreation with three to five years of directly related experience; (Cases for Equivalency will be considered);
  • 3-5 years’ experience working with youth and vulnerable populations, including evidence of strong cultural competence and demonstrated commitment to working with diverse communities and/or work environments;
  • Advanced knowledge of the concepts and theories of operating a residential camp with physical, wilderness, and leadership activities for girls and gender-diverse youth;
  • Has held a senior staff position(s) or equivalent in an overnight or day camp setting;
  • Previous work in a multicultural, unionized environment and demonstrated experience in program development and evaluation are required;
  • Thorough knowledge of girls’, gender-diverse youth and women’s services and access and equity issues are required;
  • Knowledge of financial and human resource management;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential;
  • Knowledge of current computer applications is necessary, e.g. Microsoft Office, Teams/Zoom, Outlook, etc;
  • Ability to learn and pass the food handler’s certificate and some knowledge of the food service industry;
  • Possession of a G driver’s license is required.

Note: This position is based for six months in Toronto and four to six months primarily on-site at Camp Tapawingo annually. The person would live on-site for 6 months; room & board provided while at camp. Limited vacation may not be taken during the spring and summer months. This is a one-year contract position.
