Permanent Full-Time EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
This position is responsible for performing road maintenance and construction activities
including winter plowing and snow removal, operating various equipment including but
not limited to: single and tandem axel trucks, grader, excavator, and backhoe as well as
limb chipper, chainsaw, weed trimmer and quick-cut saw.
Candidates shall have a minimum Grade 12 education and must possess an “DZ”
license with a clean abstract. A minimum of two years’ experience in a Public Works
environment is required as well as competent operation of the equipment listed above.

JOB DESCRIPTION FOR
EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1
MAIN FUNCTION:
Maintenance and construction of roads, bridges, culverts, drainage, sidewalks, parks, and other
municipal properties. This includes equipment operation and labour duties related to all PW
Department responsibilities.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES:
Under the supervision of the Manager of Public Works or designate:
 Performs maintenance and repairs on vehicles, machinery, and equipment
 Operates various pieces of equipment while plowing and sanding roads.
 Performs brushing and assists with ditching duties on Municipal roadways.
 Repairs and replaces culverts
 Performs pot hole or other road maintenance repairs
 Performs daily maintenance and checks on equipment, and reports any major repairs
that may be necessary.
 Maintains a daily log book of equipment used, fuel, oil, and parts used, and the time
required to complete each individual assignment.
 Maintains the work site in a safe neat and clean manner.
 Works within the policies and procedures of the municipality
 Performs other related duties as required and as assigned related to all PW Department
responsibilities.
 Competent operation of backhoe (loader function), single axel / tandem truck and snow
plow.
QUALIFICATIONS:
 Successful completion of Secondary School Grade XII, or equivalent.
 Possess a Class A-Z Ontario Driver’s License.
 A Minimum of two (2) years related experience.
 Personal suitability and satisfactory physical condition.
