The Taylor Statten Camps

The Taylor Statten Camps is Canada’s oldest fourth generational family-run traditional summer camp. We are located on Canoe Lake in Algonquin Provincial Park. The camp is made up of Camp Wapomeo for Girls and Camp Ahmek for Boys. Our camper’s age varies from 6 – 16.

Camp Ahmek and Camp Wapomeo have a roster of maintenance staff reporting to the Head of Maintenance. The team is responsible for the start-up, shutdown and operation of the physical facilities on Canoe Lake. This process begins in early May and ends in October each year. This position is responsible for driving an F250 with a small dump box on the back to take refuse 3x a day from the camp to the Algonquin Transfer station near by. In addition, general maintenance chores from cleaning to repairs on buildings to brush removal etc is all part of the seasonal routine.

Plumbing skills are also considered an asset as well as small engine maintenance (oil changes, troubleshooting etc).Also an asset be able to operate small motor boats (training can occur at camp).

Qualifications/Job Requirements:
· An interest in being in Algonquin Park and a great attitude J
· Some experience in general maintenance is preferred but not necessary
· Pleasure Craft Operating License (boat license)- can be done at camp
· Driver’s ‘G’ License- must be a competent driver with a clean abstract

Compensation varies depending on the qualifications and experience of the applicant but is in the range of $17 but comes with free meals and accommodation. It is an hourly rate based on 40 to 44 hours per week.

All positions include free room, board, laundry and use of facilities.

This is an annually recurring 5 month contract position with satisfactory performance. We are looking for a long term candidate who enjoys outdoor maintenance/carpentry type work in the Algonquin Park setting.

Dates of employment: early May through to mid- October inclusive.
