Metrology Technician

Summary
The Metrology Technician is responsible for direct measurement and examination of product to ensure that quality standards and procedures are met and aligned with legislation and customer specifications.  Requiring a high level of attention to detail, the Metrology Technician is responsible for strictly adhering to the organization’s quality assurance policies and identifying defects and or production errors in order to prevent these materials from entering the supply chain. Other duties may be assigned as necessary. This is a critical position within the company and presents a great opportunity for someone to provide final assurance to all our valued customers that their products are being provided with the highest level of quality possible.

Job Duties
• Perform dimensional, visual inspections and testing of various stamped metal parts.
• Remove defective items from production, designating reason for removal.
• Perform internal quality audits that are compliant with corporate policies, practices, and procedures.
• Assist with the maintenance of quality monitoring programs, including audits, controls, and other qualifiers.
• Support new product development and continuous improvement and by integrating quality control tools (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma, etc.) into processes.
• Comply with Company quality programs for monitoring supplier quality, including audits, controls, and other qualifiers.

• Promote and advocate quality achievement and performance improvement across the organization.
• Ensure ongoing compliance with local, national, and international standards and legislation.
• Adopt and incorporate quality methods into their work.
• Create and maintain quality control documentation.

Requirements
• Post Secondary Education in an appropriate field.
• Minimum 3 years of direct work experience with quality systems, regulations, guidelines, and associated standards.

• Strong organizational and prioritizing skills
• Able to work effectively in a stressful environment
• Experience dealing with high tolerance parts on various metrology equipment, CMM Optical comparator, Keyance profiler, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.
• Strong understanding of GD&T
• Must be able to read and interpret blueprints/drawings and communicate clearly and effectively in technical language with quality engineers, toolroom and production personnel
• Experience working within an QS9000, TS16949, IATF registered organization
• Direct knowledge of core problem solving tools and quality methodologies.
• Practical experience with risk management, product testing, capability studies, and control plans.
• Training and knowledge of Six Sigma techniques and Lean Manufacturing are desirable.
• Highly motivated and self-directed capable of multi-tasking, and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Extremely detail-oriented and analytical thinker.
• Able to interface directly with cross-functional teams.
• Ability to create and review technical documentation, including project plans, test procedures, and design documents.
• Able to develop, review, and maintain metrics and quality audits.
• Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
• High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite.
• Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.

Working Conditions
• Manual dexterity required to use measuring equipment, desktop computer and peripherals.
• Overtime as required.
