SUMMARY
The Orthotic Technician – 1 is responsible for all aspects of the manufacturing of custom foot orthoses,
shoe and sandal modifications.

JOB DUTIES
1. Manufacturing of custom made prescription orthoses
a. Plaster work on casts
b. Cut, glue, grind, and shape materials used in the manufacturing of orthoses
c. Manufacturing of standard orthoses devices including:
i. Functional standard, low, and full
ii. Sport Impact, SOS and Golf
iii. Accommodative Gentle
iv. Custom Direct Milled
v. Custom Vacuum Press Poly
vi. Custom Vacuum Press EVA
d. Manufacturing of specialty orthoses devices including:
i. UCBL
ii. Children’s Gait Plate
iii. Diabetic
iv. Robert’s Whitman
v. Dress
1. Women’s
2. Men’s
3. Flat cup
4. Tres Chic
e. Rough grinding orthoses shells, as applicable
i. Hard devices
ii. Soft devices
f. Manufacturing of postings for orthoses:
post neutral/varus/valgus:
i. extrinsic rearfoot Direct Milled
posts
ii. extrinsic rearfoot EVA posts
iii. intrinsic rearfoot EVA post
iv. intrinsic forefoot EVA posts – soft devices

g. Manufacturing of shell modifications for orthoses:

h. Manufacturing of additions for orthoses:

5. Assist with additional production duties as determined by the Lab Manager
6. Order materials used in the manufacturing of orthoses
7. Train junior staff in various manufacturing techniques
8. Schedule daily work production
9. Fit patients for shoes and orthotics
10. Make adjustments for orthotics
11. Backup Office Administrator
12. Backup Lab Manager
13. Know how to scan casts and foam boxes using AOMS or DELCAM iQube scanners.
14. Know how to schedule custom made orthoses using the AOMS software.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that an
employee must meet or will encounter in successfully performing the primary functions of this job.
 Standing required all day; repetitive use of hands and wrists; gripping; grinding at a grinder; cutting
with scissors; short distance reaching with hands and arms; talk and hear.
 Must wear protective safety equipment including but not limited to: hearing protection, safety
glasses, and dust mask; loose fitting clothing and some jewelry not permitted; electronic devices
secured under clothing.
 Occasionally required to lift/move up to 40 pounds.
 Normal manufacturing environment with high noise levels.
