Summer Jr. Intern

The Parry Sound Forest School Summer Junior Intern is an unpaid internship for students who are in grade 8 or older. The Intern will have the opportunity to support children as they play and learn at one of our summer camps.  The position is well suited to an individual who is interested in spending time outdoors with children and possibly exploring a future in Early Childhood Development, Teaching or Recreation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist our educators with the delivery of forest school sessions to school-aged children aged 4-12 including:

• hiking;
• story telling;
• bushcraft (tool use, knots and ropes, fire making);
• maintenance of our cabin and equipment;
• other duties as requested by the director.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

• The ideal candidate must love spending time with younger children and must be energetic, flexible, and eager to assist with the overall success of Parry Sound Forest School and must have:
• Completed grade 8;
• Passionate about spending time outdoors;
• Good communication skills;
• High level of teamwork and cooperation skills;
• Self-directed learning skills;
• Interest in traditional teachings and childcare.
  ability to support children in a caring manner and as they make friends, play, work to master new skills and participate in forest school activities.
• Ability to interact positively with children

HOURS: Full time, 8:30 to 3:30

WAGES: Unpaid summer internship, with a good shot at paid employment in the future.

LOCATION: Forest School Summer Camps take place at Canadore College Campus in Parry Sound, ON, at the Foley Fairgrounds in Seguin, ON and at the Carling Community Center in Carling, ON.
