Project Coordinator – North Simcoe Grass Roots Reconciliation Project
Project Objective
This project is a two-year pilot program focused on racial reconciliation. The Huronia Restorative Justice Project – FACE Program will be working in partnership with the Georgian Bay Native Women’s Association, The Anishinabek Police Service (Christian Island Detachment), OPP, and the Simcoe County District School Board to conduct this project.
Activities will include engaging both non-Indigenous and Indigenous youth from grades 7 – 12, building relationships between them and dealing directly with any racial tensions or prejudices, through the use of restorative practices.
Job Description/Responsibilities
This is a part time position (21 hours a week). The duties include:
· organizing and maintaining contact information of participants
· maintaining schedules of both regular and occasional events
· arranging for teaching elders
· attending events as needed to confirm attendance and arrange refreshments
· obtaining and organizing baseline data and subsequent evaluations
· maintaining liaison with schools, police and other community partners
Position Qualifications
· Education minimum of Grade 12 Diploma
· Experience with and interest in the Indigenous community and culture would be a significant asset
· Experience in or knowledge of restorative justice principles an asset
· Ability to work independently with demonstrated communication and organizational skills
