Salary: $20 – $30 per hour

At The Kee to Bala, hundreds of people come and go through our doors each event to eat, drink and listen to the best live music Canada has to offer. We’re looking for a highly competent security guard to join our team who has prior experience as a security guard, as well as training in self-defence and first aid. They will have a sharp eye with a quick reaction time in the detection of any disorderly, suspicious, or criminal behavior as well as prevent theft and vandalism.

You’ll be working directly under our security team leader for your assigned shift, and we will rely upon you for the protection, safeguarding and security of assets, personnel, customers, tenants, visitors, and other people and property on our grounds.

Objectives of this Role

  • Ensure a safe environment for all guests and staff through diligent active patrol, strict access control, monitoring, and equipment control
  • Be visible and observant at all times while greeting staff, guests, and vendors in a courteous and attentive manner
  • Respond immediately to distress calls, panic alarms, and emergency calls for disorderly conduct, disruptive persons, and incidents swiftly and appropriately
  • Maintain the company’s reputation with professionalism and legal compliance
  • Collaborate with other security guards for effective protection and coverage

Daily Responsibilities

  • Patrol property on foot, securing personnel, assets, buildings, gates, and fence perimeter
  • Facilitate identity checks on patrons entering the building to ensure they are of legal drinking age with a government issued identification card
  • Effectively perform body/bag checks to ensure patrons are not bringing illegal and/or substances/items into the building
  • Ensure all doors, windows, and exits are secured and monitored
  • Investigate and take the appropriate lawful action as authorized by the corporate policy on accidents, incidents, trespassing, suspicious activities, safety and fire incidents
  • Perform building and equipment inspections to prevent and detect signs of intrusion
  • Guard access points, permitting or refusing entry, restraining trespassers, and direct heavy traffic during start and end of business hours
  • Complete daily reports, including relevant information or observations of any irregularities such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences
  • Complete daily end of shift support to close and secure the venue

If you do not currently have an Ontario Security License but are willing to put in the time to get certified, we will host the security license training and pay for your certification (should you keep employment until the end of the season).

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Valid Ontario Security License is required
  • Smart Serve certification is required
  • Proven experience in security/law enforcement is an asset
  • Experience with security equipment and surveillance systems is an asset
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional manner and appearance and to independently make good judgment decisions within venue policy and procedures
  • Ability to work effectively within a team in a loud environment
  • Helpful and courteous attitude towards guests and staff
  • Certification in first aid, CPR/BLS, or self-defence is an asset
  • Able to work evenings and weekend shifts as scheduled

The venue is located in Bala, ON P0C 1A0, please ensure you are able to reliably commute to the venue or plan to relocate closer to the venue prior to your first shift.
