Machinists will set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts, instruments, and finished products. This includes precision instrument work to fabricate, modify or repair mechanical instruments. Fabricates and modifies parts to make/repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines. Applies knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate production line machinery and computers
  • Perform pre-shift tool and equipment inspections
  • Troubleshoot production line machinery
  • Perform equipment change-overs
  • Responsible for quality control.
  • Make necessary adjustments to produce product within specifications.
  • Reject product outside of specifications (check with supervisors)
  • Operate within standard operating procedures (SOPs) and job safety analysis (JSAs)
  • Operate forklift, overhead cranes, or mobile yard cranes (if qualified)
  • Complete daily production timecard through the timekeeping system
  • Perform daily preventive maintenance (PMS) on production line machinery or tools
  • Communicate with operators from other shifts
  • Clean and maintain work area
  • Turn off equipment when not in use
  • Lock out equipment in the event of equipment failure
  • Work shifts work as required
  • Must meet other qualifications and checklists as required

  • Education or experience as a Machinist, with a strong understanding of machining processes.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Skilled in setting up and operating machinery.
  • Strong attention to detail and precision in measuring and quality control.
  • Familiarity with various materials, including metals and plastics.
    Awareness of safety protocols and procedures in a manufacturing environment.
