Summer Student- Junior Carpenter

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

We are currently looking for a junior carpenter. We are seeking a student to join our team that has an interest in carpentry and would like to learn the trade. The student will work along with our team assisting with building, restoring and/or installing of structural woodwork and related materials of active projects. This position requires excellent physical stamina and a strong work ethic, and most importantly the desire to want to learn the trade including plumbing, electrical and mechanical components.

The Summer Student will assist with:

  • Moving, lifting and transporting materials, tools and equipment to job sites
  • Laying building foundations
  • Mix and pour cement, create forms, pour stairs
  • Framing of building including doors and windows
  • Remove and install siding, drywall and scaffolding
  • Remove and install various flooring material
  • Construct required items including specialty furniture, cupboards, shelves, tables, chairs
  • Building stairs and decks
  • Finishing duties such as drywall, boarding, taping, mudding
  • Masonry
  • Perform renovations as required

Learning Objectives

  • Utilize Building Information Software (Builders trend)
  • Operate and maintain carpentry tools and equipment safely
  • Work in a safe and clean manner. Protecting customers property from damage
  • Contribute and participate in the effective use of the Quality Control System
  • Introduction to preparing estimates for work orders and material lists
  • Introduction to rough schematics and blueprints
  • Inventory Control
  • Understanding industry terminology and methods
  • Respect and respond to direction given by lead-hand(s) and Carpenter apprentice
  • Perform other duties as assigned from time-to-time by the Manager and Supervisor(s)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be Enrolled in full time school for the fall (government funded position)
  • Must reliable transportation to get to work
  • Desire to learn Basic Carpentry and home maintenance skills
  • Previous building and painting experience an asset, not required
  • Experience with various carpentry tools and equipment an asset, not required
  • Ability to stand, bend, reach and twist for long periods of time as being able to work hard when called upon is a must
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs continuously as carrying and moving will be a huge part of the job
  • Excellent communication, organization and time management skills
  • Professional attitude and a strong work ethic
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team
  • Take initiative and direction and follow through
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as required

HOURS OF WORK
Full-Time – 40+ hrs/week

REMUNERATION
$18.30-$25 per hour
