Reporting to the General Manager, Protective and Development Services, or their designate, the Senior Municipal Law Enforcement Officer is responsible for the day-to-day administration, coordination and supervision of Municipal Law Enforcement initiatives and work plans for the Municipality. This position is responsible for ensuring enforcement and compliance with respect to Municipal By-laws and other legislation enforced by the Municipality, providing advice to the general public, Council, committees and staff regarding the enforcement of Zoning and other regulatory By-laws and developing new By-laws to address areas of concern within the Municipality.

The position requires the completion of post-secondary education in Law Enforcement, or other relevant discipline, from an accredited educational institution, a minimum of 5 years of progressive Municipal Law Enforcement experience,  a minimum of 2 years of progressive supervisory/management experience, preferably in a municipal or public sector environment, Municipal Law Enforcement Officers’ Association (MLEOA) Municipal Law Enforcement Officer Certified designation in good standing, Standard First Aid and CPR Certification in good standing, and a Class ‘G’ driver’s license in good standing.

Strong consideration may be given to candidates with a proven track record of success as well as a background and certification, in good standing, in law enforcement (other than Municipal).

The successful candidate will be innovative, inclusive and adaptable; and will motivate, develop, empower and engage others. They will have strong written and verbal communications skills and analytical skills as well as an effective presentation style and method. Additionally, they will have superior interpersonal and public relations skills to deal courteously and effectively with all levels of staff and government, elected officials, local boards/commissions, community groups and organizations, and the general public with the ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and proper judgment at all times.

Position involves physical exertion and efforts of driving, sitting, standing, walking/sprinting/running, and prolonged computer/office equipment use. Position requires considerable travel, including but not limited to daily patrols throughout Township, delivery of court documents and attending court proceedings. Position requires both mental and visual concentration with close attention to detail, including attentive listening as well as reading, analyzing, writing/documenting, providing and presenting information. Position may involve difficult conversations with the general public.

The salary range for this position is $35.55 to $41.84 per hour (currently under review) with a 35-hour work week. Overtime required, including attendance at evening meetings, occasional weekends and public holidays, and in the event of emergency situations or critical situations requiring an immediate response. We also offer a comprehensive pension and benefit package (conditions may apply).
