Traditional Counsellor

Enaahtig Healing Lodge and Learning Centre

Under the direct supervision of the Youth Lodge Program Manager and overall supervision of the Executive Director, the Traditional Counsellor is responsible to support the delivery of the Youth Lodge programming, contributing to the overall program design and development, therapeutic counselling unit as well as the overall program and services of Enaahtig Healing Lodge.

• Responsible for traditional counselling approaches regarding teachings, ceremonies, sweat lodges, songs and land based practices.
• Support therapists and staff working with youth and their families.
• Work with program staff to develop and implement culturally appropriate activities and traditional techniques to address the needs of youth.
• Traditional teachings will be reflective of Anishabek, Haudenosaunee and Cree.
• Share responsibility for individual, family and/or group counselling and address needs through culturally adapted techniques.
• Other duties as required.

• Received training/apprenticeship from acknowledged and respected elders, Traditional Teachers, and received permission to perform numerous ceremonial functions. Ie. Sweat lodges, healing sweats and songs.
• Have solid individual and group counselling background and related skills.
• 5 year related experience working with Indigenous youth and their families.
• Be willing to work flexible hours in a rural setting.
• Have or willing to obtain CPR/First Aid, PMAB, ASIST Trainings.
• Must be willing to obtain or have a current Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Salary & Benefits:
• Salary: $65,000 -$70,000 per year
