Position Overview Reporting to the Environmental Services Coordinator, the Transfer Station Attendant is responsible for the day-to-day operation and monitoring of the Solid Waste Transfer Station.

  • Post-secondary diploma preferred. • Applicants must have reliable transportation and will be required to work on weekdays and weekends throughout the contract.
  • Ability to lift between 40 lbs and 60 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence.
  • Responsible for the security of the Transfer Station site, including the locking and unlocking of the gate and operating any security measures in place.
  • Maintain usage log of rate payers and contractors at site.
  • Operate small equipment including compaction bins, generators and weed eaters.
  • Collect user fees from rate payers and contractors using The Township’s assigned payment method.
  • Assist all persons using the Transfer Station with the proper disposal of their waste. Answer questions on the recycling program and provide handouts if requested.
  • Attend The Township’s mandatory training and orientation sessions.
  • Ensure the site is safe and tidy at the end of each day.
  • Operate in a safe manner and comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements and The Township’s safety policies.
  • Conduct all other relevant duties as requested by the Coordinator.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Environmental Services Coordinator, the Transfer Station Attendant is responsible for the day-to-day operation and monitoring of the Solid Waste Transfer Station.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Post-secondary diploma preferred. • Applicants must have reliable transportation and will be required to work on weekdays and weekends throughout the contract.
  • Ability to lift between 40 lbs and 60 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence.

Position Description

  • Responsible for the security of the Transfer Station site. This includes unlocking and locking the gate and operating any security measures in place.
  • Maintain a record of all people using the Station. This record will serve to track overall usage, time of influx, as well as to enforce policies.
  • Collect user fees from rate payers and contractors who have construction, demolition material or large items using The Township’s assigned payment methods.
  • Assist all persons using the Station with the proper disposal of their waste. Answer questions on the recycling program and provide handouts if requested.
  • Ensure lidded bins are properly closed at the end of each day.
  • Ensure the site is safe and tidy at the end of each day.
  • Maintain the site in a safe and clean state. Rake and /or litter pick-up as necessary, properly dispose of all waste left lying around the site.
  • Inspection of the facility per shift, for refuse, obstacles, maintenance concerns etc. Take appropriate action to keep site clean and safe.
  • Change the fire rating sign as per Coordinator’s instructions.
  • Attend The Township’s mandatory orientation sessions. This training will review how to identify, separate and properly dispose of any potentially hazardous or prohibited waste dropped off at the Station.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and files, unless the release of specific information is authorized by the Coordinator.
  • Operate in a safe manner and comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements and the Township’s safety policies.
  • Conduct all other relevant duties as requested by the Coordinator.
