The Youth Life Promotion program is a newly funded program that is based on principles of self-determination and cultural reclamation for urban Indigenous youth (ages 13-24). The program will support the wholistic development and provide a continuum of care services for Indigenous youth at-risk. These services will address the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health and well- being of our youth. Youth Culture Camps; water and land-based activities; one-on-one supports; and access to elders & traditional knowledge keepers will be an integral foci of this program.

 

Basic Requirements Include:-

Ø Post-secondary education in the social sciences with emphasis in Indigenous studies;

Ø Knowledge and experience working with urban Indigenous youth in a healing and reconciliation capacity;

Ø Demonstrated and related work experience within an Indigenous organization or community;

Ø Physical ability to fully participate in culture-based outdoor & over-night/weekend youth-camp activities;

Ø Knowledge of the Friendship Centre and the various program provided to the community;

Ø Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and the social reality that Indigenous people experience in urban settings;

Ø Experience in program planning, development, implementation, data collection, and evaluation;

Ø Good oral/written communication and technology skills.

Ø Ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision;

Ø Ability to work as a team player and be capable of coordinating activities with other Friendship Centre programmers;

Ø Must be willing to travel occasionally to attend professional development;

Ø Must be able to role-model healthy living behaviors.

Ø Possess a current First Aid / CPR certification or be willing to be certified;

Ø Vaccinated or committed to be vaccinated against the Covid_19 virus.

Ø Produce a recent and acceptable Criminal Police Reference Check and Vulnerable Persons’ screening prior to a job an employment offer.

Ø Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends

Ø Must be able to demonstrate and model excellent work habits including punctuality, attendance, and commitment.
