Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program

In South Georgian Bay, community partners including the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, Collingwood YMCA and the Georgian Bay Family Health Team (GBFHT) have come together and developed a Pulmonary Rehabilitation program for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a 6 week program designed for individuals with chronic lung diseased, such as COPD. The program includes supervised exercises classes and education sessions from regulated healthcare professionals. The program is run out of the Collingwood YMCA, with support from the GBFHT and CGMH Rehabilitation and Respiratory Therapy staff.

Classes run twice per week, on Tuesdays & Fridays from 12:00 – 2:00pm. One hour will be exercise, and one hour will be education.

How to Register

A referral, via email, from your family Doctor or Nurse Practitioner directly to the GBFHT is needed. Your doctor’s office should have the necessary details. Once accepted into the program, participants must join the YMCA, as a member. To further support the participants in this program, the YMCA will waive the standard $84.75 joining fee. Each participant is also entitled to a complimentary 6 week membership for a caregiver or friend. If your friend or caregiver joins the YMCA within those 6 weeks, the joining fee will also be waived for them. YMCA Financial Assistance is also available for anyone who needs it.

See Membership Staff for details about joining!
