Summer is here!

We know families are looking to the Y to support them this summer. We’ve modified our programs to ensure a safe and fun experience can still be had.

Although YMCA Camp Kitchikewana has been forced to forgo its traditional overnight camp program on Beausoleil Island, we will be delivering its youth leadership development program virtually this summer. Designed for high school students, participants will build skills through a combination of group work and independent study – and most of all have fun!

This leadership program:

  • will be lead by awesome Kitchikewana staff and volunteers, and is a great way to stay connected this summer.
  • will talk about camp – a lot. It will help connect participants to their role, present and future, as a camp leader.
  • will give you the opportunity to spend time with your camp friends.
  • will create learning through the games and activities that we will participate in together, just like camp.

Registration is now live! Head over here to register for our Camp From Home Leadership Program. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

The tradition of Geneva Park’s summer family camp continues, beginning July 5. With limited programming available and increased scheduled cleaning, the Y is thrilled to continue this over century-long tradition of leadership development and increased quality family time on beautiful Lake Couchiching.

The YMCA will be offering a revised in-person summer program for children ages 4-12 in the following communities: Barrie, Collingwood, Innisfil, Midland, Orillia, and Wasaga Beach. This program will run for 8 weeks from July 6 to August 28. Priority was given to those campers who registered prior to the pandemic. The Y is working with public health to create a safe space for our children, their families and our staff.

YCamp is a FREE virtual camp experience for everyone, with new activities being released weekly, beginning July 6 through August 28. Each week campers will get the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of traditional camp programs instructed by Y leaders from across the country. Campers can participate and submit their completed activities to our YCamp counsellors and earn badges to fill their 2020 YCamp Passport.

We have reviewed provincial guidelines and are working with public health to reopen our child care facilities in the safest manner possible. We will be taking a phased-in approach, in order to support social distancing and safety measures.

All families registered prior to COVID-19 will be contacted by the site supervisor prior to reopening.

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka has established the following core principles to guide our decision making as we re-open our YMCA programs and services.

  1. A commitment to the health and safety of our participants, volunteers, staff and the community
  2. Prioritizing programs that meet our community’s greatest needs
  3. Being financially responsible to sustain the long-term viability of the Y as a charity
  4. Supporting our employees by calling back staff from temporary lay-off as soon as possible
