Summary:

Founded in 1967, Rosseau Lake College is a small preparatory day and boarding school for 130 students in grades 7-12. We are a school that challenges the conventions and traditions of education, relentless in innovating highly-engaging programming that extensively integrates experiential learning with our stunning natural landscape, the environment at large, and Indigenous knowledge and history through our Seven Generations Program. Located in the Muskoka region, two hours north of Toronto, our mission is to create extraordinary learning opportunities rooted in meaningful outdoor educational experiences in our unique natural environment.

Rosseau Lake College is seeking a male Boarding Life Don & Associate Faculty
for the 2024-25 school year

The successful candidates will be energetic and committed, offering previous experience working with young people in a camp or education context. Applications are welcome from people looking to work exclusively as a Boarding Life Don or from those interested in working both as a Boarding Life Don and as Associate Faculty, which includes the opportunity to teach or support academic courses each semester. These roles are ideal for educators or aspiring educators who are intrinsically motivated to develop personal pedagogy through valuable teaching experience and guidance. This is an opportunity to participate in an extensive professional development program within a unique, determined, and innovative teaching and learning community. Furthermore, this is an opportunity for challenge and growth under the guidance and support of education leaders.

Contract Length: August 26, 2024 – June 20, 2025

Key Responsibilities for Boarding Life Don role: 

  • Develop, organize and implement evening and weekend programming activities in a vibrant boarding community
  • Coach and mentor students through active participation in the co-curricular program
  • Form meaningful connection and rapport with students, managing custodial care for boarding students
  • Like all faculty and staff, be an ongoing champion for the social, mental, and emotional wellbeing of all students across the school program, helping to ensure that each student is known, understood, and feels a deep sense of belonging and safety
  • Provide a nurturing and supportive living/learning/working environment that encourages student personal and social responsibility and overall growth
  • Maintain standards of student behaviour required to run a safe campus environment conducive to student learning and development

Additional responsibilities for Associate Faculty role:

  • Teaching opportunities available throughout the year that encourage creativity and balance autonomy with support
  • OCT certified teachers are provided with the opportunity to oversee all aspects of learning in at least one academic courses (additional opportunities if interested and available)

  • Internal application to future positions and a teaching career at Rosseau Lake College

Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary education; university degree is an asset
  • OCT certification is an asset, though not required
  • Comfort and experience in the outdoors; experience with Outdoor Education is an asset
  • Experience with students in an overnight setting (e.g. camp) is an asset

Our Boarding Life Dons & Associate Faculty are essential and highly-valued members of our community and offer support for the academic, social, physical, and emotional well-being of our students.

Hours of work vary in conjunction with school duties and responsibilities as well as with operational requirements of the school. Evening and weekend work is required.

Compensation:

This position includes room and board, a standard employee benefits package (health, dental, life insurance, long-term disability), enrollment in the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP) if eligible, and a reasonable salary.
