Facilities and Maintenance Worker

Reports To: Plant and Facilities Manager


Founded in 1967, Rosseau Lake College is a small, co-educational, post-secondary preparatory day and boarding school for students in grades 7-12.   Rosseau Lake College is located in the village of Rosseau.

Job Duties


  • Performs general maintenance of all buildings, grounds and equipment
  • Performs preventive maintenance procedures on buildings, mechanical equipment, and essential systems (ie. water)
  • Inspects, tests, records, and reports the school’s drinking water system to ensure compliance with the Ministry of Environment regulatory requirements
  • Train to become a certified small non-municipal water operator
  • Completes daily, weekly and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance procedures and maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures
  • Assists with the renovations/remodeling of buildings; repairs plaster and drywall; paints building structures
  • Performs a wide variety of general maintenance activities (carpentry, painting, electrical, etc.)
  • Installs system component parts, classroom and office equipment, and facility components (eg. lighting, heating and ventilation systems, alarms, plumbing, security, electrical panels, etc.)
  • Arranges furniture and equipment for special events and other school functions

Grounds keeping

  • Maintains campus grounds, which includes grass cutting, gardening, leaf and debris removal, and other duties as required
  • Clean grounds areas (pathways, docks, highly used and visible spaces) for the purpose of providing safe and aesthetically pleasing work/learning environment
  • Snow and ice removal on all campus roads, essential walkways, building entrances, and emergency exits during the winter months


  • Participate in meetings, training, workshops, and seminars for the purpose of team building and/or professional development
  • Assist skilled trades with projects (e.g. transporting and/or securing materials for the purpose of completing tasks in a safe and efficient manner
  • Maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures


  • Risk identification, assessment, mitigation and reporting
  • Assess risks
  • Works with the Joint Health and Safety Committee to ensure safety and functionality of physical systems
  • Monitors and addresses quality assurance concerns and/or issues

Two years of work experience in a grounds and/or maintenance position is preferred.
