Summer Student – Landscaping & Facilities Laborer

Summary:

Rosseau Lake College is seeking a highly motivated and energetic individual to be involved in the delivery of maintenance duties; including grass cutting, building repairs, horticulture, sports field preparation and general maintenance activities from May to September 2024. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in landscaping, facilities, horticulture, equipment operation and/or building maintenance.

You will be reporting directly to the Facilities Lead and/or the appropriate member of the senior leadership team.

In order to be eligible for this summer employment opportunity, ideally you:

• must be a registered full-time post-secondary student returning to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
• must be able to promote a culture of inclusiveness and work with a diverse population of employees, participants, agencies and the public;
• must have a valid class “G” Ontario driver’s license in good standing;
• are required to own or purchase safety footwear as a pre-condition of employment;
• must complete a vulnerable sector screening as a pre-condition of employment;

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide general maintenance on construction sites and buildings
• Be willing to learn and develop new construction trades skills
• Capable of operating small equipment and tools
• Provide excellent communication skills and be a great team player
• General construction, landscaping, and grounds maintenance experience
• This position involves continuous heavy physical work in all weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

• Highly organized
• Ability to project prioritize and meet deadlines
• Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university in a related field of study
• 35 hours a week Monday-Friday, starting May 1st – September 1st.
• This is an on campus position

Expected Salary:

• $16 – 18 / hr depending on experience
