Join Us for Move to Give on April 30, 2016!

According to a report from the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation, for the first time in history, today’s youth will live shorter lives than their parents. This is a staggering statement and we strongly believe that the health of our children should not be a luxury. We know that children who start out strong, stay strong. The adults in their lives are committed, informed and connected. Their homes are nurturing and safe. Their parents, teachers and neighbours work together to ensure access to services, programs and experiences needed for optimal development from infancy to adulthood.

On April 30, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is holding its second annual fundraiser, MOVE TO GIVE.  The fundraising event will take place simultaneously in eight YMCAs within our region: Barrie, Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Gravenhurst, Innisfil, Midland, Orillia and Parry Sound, and at all YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka child care centres. The goal of the campaign is to raise money in an effort to promote better health and physical activity and to help our local youth who require financial assistance to participate in YMCA programs.

To encourage families to get out and be active on April 30th, we’ve got activities for all ages. From walking 5km to running a half marathon, massive indoor cycling sessions, mini-triathlon, family swim challenges, and more— participants will have the opportunity to challenge themselves physically while at the same time, give back to their community.

The YMCA gives children, no matter what their financial situation, the support and opportunity they need throughout the year to learn, play and grow in a safe and supportive environment. YMCAs are important partners of families in raising healthy kids. As a leader in the development of children, the YMCA is committed to continually assessing the needs of families in our communities to understand how to serve them best.

Collectively, YMCAs in Canada serve more than 2 million people including 574,100 children and 239,500 youth up to the age of 17, in more than 1,000 communities across the province. We believe that everyone deserves the chance to grow and flourish in spirit, mind and body.  And more than that, we believe that with the right support and opportunities, everyone can.

We hope you’ll join us on April 30th to help raise money for this important cause. For complete schedules of what’s happening in each community, and to register for events, please visit www.movetogive.ca.
