Holiday’s, happiest and toughest time for families

YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka CEO Rob ArmstrongAll of us at the YMCA would like to wish you a Joy filled holiday season; a season when we come together to celebrate family, friends and community both locally and globally.

The YMCA is an international organization with a presence in more than 182 countries throughout the world.  Each community celebrates in their own unique way, yet all have one common thread which weaves us all together – the building & celebration of relationships. Family, friends and connections – this is the true essence of the holiday season, regardless of background, faith or ethnicity. This is a wonderful time of year when millions of people put aside their difference and come together to celebrate the gift of health, family and possibilities for the New Year.

Overcoming Holiday Pressures

Although the season can be fun filled and festive, it can also bring with it a great deal of stress and anxiety with tightening waistbands and even tighter budgets.

The YMCA recognizes how stressful this time of year can be and we would like to help in whatever way we are able. We are committed to helping you and your family enjoy the holiday season in as healthy and stress free manner as possible. For that reason, we will be hosting events, such as the Youth Lunch in partnership with the Creative Space in Barrie, Wednesday, December 19th or Member Potlucks, taking place at a variety of YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka locations (Contact your Y for more information). Our goal is to provide a chance for you and your family & friends to spend quality time together at no cost and in a healthy, active way.

We understand that many people within our community are dealing with difficult financial times, particularly at this time of year and we would like take this time to remind you that the YMCA will never turn anyone away because of their inability to pay. It is because of the generosity of many people within this tremendous community that we are able to provide financial assistance to individuals and families in need of support. A membership at the Y can provide a healthy, active way for families to connect or individuals to meet new friends. We encourage you to come in and ask about ways that we can help you or someone you love, today.

Give the Gift of Time this year

With all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it is important to remember that the gift of time is the most precious gift that you can give to someone you love.

From all of the staff & volunteers that make up the YMCA family to all of you in the Simcoe/Muskoka community, we wish you Happy Holidays and a Healthy & Active New Year!
