Together in Movement and Exercise, better known as TIME, is an enjoyable, effective and doable exercise program for people with mobility challenges. These challenges may result from range of conditions such as stroke, MS, brain trauma, arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, aging and more.
“It’s a remarkable program and we have a real need for it in our community,” says Allan, a past TIME participant.

Qualified fitness instructors guide participants through several exercise stations to improve their confidence, strength, balance and endurance for everyday activities like standing from sitting, reaching, stepping onto curbs, managing stairs, walking endurance and much more.
“Having facilitated the TIME program for almost two years now, I’m amazed at the progress participants make over a 12-week period and how it affects their mood, ability and confidence,” says Bill Joyce, Personal Trainer and program facilitator, Wasaga Beach YMCA. “It’s obvious to me that they feel much better about themselves when they see how far they’ve come and are able to do more challenging movements and exercises.”

The program is a one-hour group session held once a week for 12 weeks and is best suited for adults who can walk at least 10 metres with or without an assistive device. Program participants who are not members of the YMCA are given a complimentary MyY membership that allows them to attend the program and take advantage of other YMCA offerings.
Here’s what participants have to say about TIME:
“I have gotten much better since starting the program.” – Anonymous, past participant
“Thank you. I needed something to get me moving again.” – Anonymous, past participant
The program is available at most centres in Simcoe/Muskoka. For more information or to register for an upcoming TIME program, contact your local YMCA or call the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka in Barrie at 705-726-9622.
