Summer is fast approaching and so is the time for barbecues, social gatherings and family vacations. A change in your regular schedule often means taking a break from your exercise routine at the YMCA Midland and healthy eating habits.

Despite the seasonal change in your lifestyle, there are ways to create balance and still be able to enjoy the occasional ice cream or french fries.

Portion size control requires discipline and practice. This can take on the form of sharing a single portion with friends or adding mineral water and ice cubes to a high-calorie beverage. Try to be creative with the many ways you can reduce your portions so that you can continue to enjoy the good things in life, and make sure to carry a water bottle with you at all times!

MyY Tips for staying active all summer long

Staying active, regardless of a change in your schedule, requires strategy. A trip to the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is a great way to escape the mid-afternoon heat. Early morning or evening is a good time to enjoy outdoor activities when the heat is not too high. Water activities, playing volleyball on the beach or a hike in the woods are all fantastic ways to stay active with friends and family while staying cool, even during the hottest part of the day.

Make sure to wear sun protection and drink plenty of water throughout the summer months. Start making plans now to ensure you stay fit and active all summer long.

Check out what’s happening this summer at MyY Midland or your local YMCA to take advantage of the summer fun activities being offered.

Enjoy!
